Sermon Series Notes
The Bible describes the church in many ways, including as the body of Christ, the people of God, and the bride of Christ:
Body of Christ: The church is made up of all those who have faith in Jesus Christ for salvation. Christ is the head of the church, and Christians are the body. The church is dependent on Christ, gifted by the Holy Spirit, and functions as Christ's instruments in the world.
People of God: God says of the church, "I will be their God, and they will be my people". The church is the adopted family of God, with a loving relationship between God as Father and each other as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Bride of Christ: The church is particularly loved by Christ, saved by his work on the cross, and exclusively devoted to him. This suggests a special and sacred family relationship between Christ and the church.
“For just as in one body we have many members, but all the members do not have the same function, in the same way we who are many are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another”
Romans 12:4-5
