Sermon Series Notes
The Book of Joshua records Israel’s conquest of the Promised Land under Joshua’s leadership. After Moses’ death, God commands Joshua to be strong and courageous as he leads the Israelites across the Jordan River into Canaan. The miraculous fall of Jericho, the defeat and redemption at Ai, and the sun standing still during battle highlight how God fights for His people when they remain faithful. Through numerous battles, Israel defeats the major kings of Canaan, securing the land promised to Abraham.
After the conquest, Joshua divides the land among the twelve tribes, establishing cities of refuge and ensuring every tribe receives their inheritance. In his farewell speech, Joshua warns Israel to remain faithful to God and avoid idolatry, declaring, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” The book closes with Israel renewing their covenant with God, a reminder that obedience leads to blessing, while disobedience brings consequences. Joshua’s story is ultimately one of God’s faithfulness, leadership, and the importance of trusting in His promises.
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
