Sermon Series Notes

The Book of Exodus can be broken down into several stages, or milestones, that mark the Israelites' journey out of Egypt:

  • Introduction: The Israelites are oppressed in Egypt, beginning with the death of Joseph and the rise of a new pharaoh who enslaves them

  • The Call of Moses: Moses is rescued from the Nile and adopted by the pharaoh's daughter, who names him Moses

  • The Contest with Pharaoh: God confronts Pharaoh through Moses, and the Israelites are delivered after the Ten Plagues

  • The Israelites' Deliverance: The Israelites cross the Red Sea and establish themselves at Mount Sinai, where Moses receives the Ten Commandments

  • Israel's Grumbling and Rebellion: The Israelites disobey God and indulge in idolatry, so God punishes them with 40 years of wandering in the desert.

“In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling.”

Exodus 15:13
